Google has yet to release the stable Android 16 QPR1 update, expected to debut the Material 3 Expressive Design, but is rolling out the Android 16 QPR2 Beta update already. The stable build won’t roll out until December, and we expect subsequent beta releases before then.
Google does not rely solely on a new Android OS upgrade to deliver new features. The Quarterly Platform Releases provide an opportunity to introduce significant changes. Of course, more than monthly security patches are needed, as it’s mainly to resolve bugs and enhance security. Still, we recommend installing it when prompted.
Details of Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 update
Google is rolling out the Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 update for eligible users. It is available for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 9a, as well as the Android Emulator. It has a software version BP41.250725.006 and comes with the August 2025 security patch.
It is an OTA release, but you must be part of the beta program to release the upgrade. However, you can visit the source link and learn how to side-load the build. Don’t forget to use the Android Beta Feedback app to submit problems. Additionally, the Android Beta community on Reddit is another means to file bug reports.
