Samsung is actively testing One UI 8.5, an update expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series. While the official rollout is still weeks away, early details about upcoming features are already emerging. A recent update shared through Samsung’s Good Lock platform has now confirmed one of the most exciting additions coming with One UI 8.5 — Privacy Display.

Privacy Display: A Major One UI 8.5 Upgrade

According to recent reports, Samsung is expanding Good Lock with new and enhanced modules in One UI 8.5. These include LockStar, QuickStar, Home Up, Theme Park, and GameBooster+. Among all the announced improvements, Privacy Display stands out as the most anticipated feature.

The Privacy Display feature is designed to limit screen visibility when viewed from off-angles. In simple terms, only users looking directly at the display will be able to clearly see on-screen content, while others nearby will see a dimmed or obscured view. Until now, this level of privacy was only achievable using third-party privacy screen protectors.

Samsung has previously teased and demoed this technology, and early impressions suggest it works remarkably well.

    Galaxy S26 Ultra Exclusivity Likely

Unfortunately, current information suggests that Privacy Display may be exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This wouldn’t be surprising, as Samsung followed a similar strategy with its non-reflective display technology, which also launched exclusively on the Ultra model.

That said, there is still hope. Developers may eventually find ways to enable the feature on older Galaxy devices or non-supported models, though this remains speculative for now.

New One UI 8.5 Features via Good Lock

Here’s a complete list of new and improved Good Lock features coming with One UI 8.5:

    • Custom unlock animations via LockStar
    • Editable Quick Settings layout and panel size via QuickStar
    • Custom image backgrounds for Quick Settings panels via QuickStar
    • Large folders support via Home Up
    • Icon label customization via Home Up
    • Physical gamepad to touchscreen mapping via GameBooster+

    Final Thoughts

With One UI 8.5, Samsung continues to push deeper customization and privacy-focused features for Galaxy users. If Privacy Display lives up to expectations, it could become one of the most impactful display features Samsung has introduced in years — even if it starts as an Ultra-exclusive feature.
