Xiaomi is preparing a new HyperOS build that brings fresh features and refinements. The update, dubbed HyperOS 3.1, is currently exclusive to China, where the public beta program has already begun. While the update introduces notable improvements, many users may be disappointed to learn that not all devices will be eligible.

A key requirement is Android 16. HyperOS 3.1 is strictly tied to Android 16, which means any Xiaomi device still running Android 15—and without an upgrade path to Android 16—will not receive the update.
HyperOS 3.1 beta rollout details
As usual, Xiaomi has kicked off the HyperOS 3.1 beta program in China first. The rollout is happening in batches, starting January 22, 2026. While Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed how long beta testing will last, a stable release is expected in the coming weeks.

When will the stable HyperOS 3.1 update roll out?
Xiaomi is expected to begin rolling out the stable HyperOS 3.1 update in the coming weeks. As usual, the release will start in China before expanding to global variants.
Interestingly, Xiaomi has now narrowed the feature gap between Chinese and global versions of HyperOS. This means global users should receive the same set of features available in the Chinese build of HyperOS 3.1.
Global rollout and Android 16 requirement
Only devices running Android 16 will be eligible for HyperOS 3.1. As a result, all Xiaomi 17 series models are guaranteed to receive the update.
For global markets, the Xiaomi 15T Pro and Xiaomi 15T are expected to be among the first devices to receive HyperOS 3.1, before the rollout expands to other supported models.
Unfortunately, any Xiaomi device stuck on Android 15 with no planned Android 16 upgrade will miss out on HyperOS 3.1. While this is the current plan, there’s still hope that Xiaomi may revise its update strategy in the future.
