Android Auto users have had a stable experience using the app for months, but new issues have started surfacing. We understand Spotify controls are broken for many people, while the display looks washed out.
After a period of stability for Android Auto users, reports are pouring in about some annoying issues. There is a problem with Spotify, and it is widely being reported across various channels. According to 9to5Google, the bug was first seen in July and has now escalated. Perhaps it is not linked with a particular Android Auto update, but it is still something that needs to be resolved.
Details of broken Spotify controls on Android Auto
We understand Spotify has been showing a blank widget on the Android Auto dashboard for some time now. There is also an issue with the controls. Those experiencing these problems say that when it happens, the widget appears with a “Tap to Open” message even if music or a podcast is playing. Opening the app shows the current media, and in some cases, in-car controls are affected with a skip button on the steering wheel and other malfunctions.
Unfortunately, there is currently no fix for the problem. It is believed Spotify will resolve it, meaning you should check for a new update for those having this issue.
Meanwhile, Google might be preparing a fix of its own. It’s not to address the Spotify controls problems, but to resolve the grayish display widely being reported. According to reports, areas of the display that are meant to be black are appearing in gray.

The issue seems to be happening at random, as some people are not experiencing it. However, many people have taken to Reddit to report the bug, and you can find some pictures via the source link.
A new update is probably going to address the issue, and since no version has been linked to the bug, you can install the latest update that was released a few days ago. Hopefully, that resolves the bug, as we wait for an official acknowledgement from Google.
