Google Messages has seen some improvements since it started supporting RCS messaging. Previously, users gained the ability to send images in original quality. Most recently, Google released the unsend feature, which is now widely available.
New features on Google Messages are usually rolled out to a few people before expanding broadly. The unsend feature first appeared in beta a few months ago in select countries and has since rolled out to stable versions in more regions, eventually becoming widely available.
With the support of RCS, it is possible to delete sent messages. It is not just on your screen but on the recipients’ screens too. However, this will only work when the message was not sent as an SMS. You will not see the option to unsend a message, and while you can delete the message, the recipient will still have it.
How unsend feature on Google Messages works

Ensure you have the latest update downloaded on your device, as you might not see the feature if you’re running an outdated version.
- Select the message you want to delete.
- Tap on the trash icon on top of the screen.
- A prompt will pop up asking you to choose between ”Delete for everyone” and ”Delete for me.”
- Of course, delete for me means the message is removed from your screen, while the recipient can still see it. Delete for everyone means everyone, including you and the recipient, will stop seeing the message, as it will be wiped from both screens.
While the unsending message feature has been widely available, it is only recently that Google Messages incorporated it. Ensure you have the latest build, and remember it works only on messages sent via RCS.
