Google is letting its users change their Gmail addresses. The company has been working on this change for some time and is now rolling it out in select regions. You can change the part before @gmail, but that’s actually what matters.
Google has published a video showing people who wish to change their Gmail address. However, only those in the US seem to have the ability to change their address, but there are reports that some people in India can. Perhaps Google is gradually rolling it out in other regions with wider availability, exclusive to the US.
Here is how to change your Gmail address
If you have an old Gmail address you have been trying to get rid of, Google is now allowing you to do that. Interestingly, you can do that every few months, so you can revert or change to any address you want.
- Head to Google Account Settings
- Tap Personal Info, then Email
- Click Google Account Email
- You will see a big blue button saying “Change Google Account email.”
- Tap it and pick a new email

If you are interested in what will happen after replacing your email, here is what Google is saying.
The original address will remain on your account as an alternate. Those emailing the old address will still get you, but you can only perform the change every 12 months. Hence, before changing your Gmail address, ensure you want to do it and pick the right name.
We can only confirm a wider rollout in the US, but it might still take a few days to become available for everyone. Nevertheless, you can check back in a few days if you still don’t have the option to change your Gmail address.
