Google has started rolling out a new Android Auto 15.1 update to address issues reported by early adopters. There have been a wide range of reports from users, especially Samsung, where the app crashes when they try to access it through their phone settings. We have had a few people resolve the problem without the new update, but you can also install the latest build if you are experiencing a crashing issue.

The new Android Auto 15.1 update has supposedly resolved the issue experienced widely by Samsung and some Pixel users running Android 15/16. Of course, other smartphone brands are having problems accessing Android Auto from their device settings. We understand Xiaomi and OnePlus smartphones have been reporting a crashing issue.

Details of the new Android Auto 15.1 update and bug resolution

The new Android Auto 15.1 update is rolling out for beta testers. It is coming with a build number (15.1.6534) and weighs about 32.5MB. Since only those in the beta program have access to the build, Google has made it available exclusively via the Play Store. But as always, you can install the APK file.

Meanwhile, before the latest update started rolling out, we had people resolve the issue without installing a new update. Simply resetting Android Auto on your car’s unit head fixes the issue. You doubt you would want to go through all that, especially when the new version has been confirmed to have resolved the problem.

Aside from fixing a bug, the update seems to be ditching vibrant color for full color. Google has been making changes with Material 3 Expressive Design. It’s simply pulling colors from your phone’s wallpaper and importing them to Android Auto. Reports suggest the recent update has taken away the vibrancy, but we understand it’s still in a testing phase, meaning things can still change.

Google is rolling out the new update via the Play Store. It’s available as Android Auto 15.1.653424 and has a download size of 17.53MB. If you cannot wait for a stable release, the APK file is available via this link.
