Samsung has yet to announce the One UI 9, as they are currently planning the release of stable One UI 8.5. However, testing has started on the next iteration of One UI, which will be based on Android 17. Google has already reached platform stability, meaning we should get a stable build in the coming weeks. These updates will arrive as a single build for Samsung phones, and the latest leak suggests it will bring a new tap to share feature.

Android 17 based One UI 9 build will bring Tap to Share feature
Samsung has been working on a new file-sharing addition, like the Apple NameDrop tap to share feature. We were hoping it would debut with the upcoming One UI 8.5 update, but we may have to wait for One UI 9 before seeing it on Galaxy phones.
Moreover, Google is working on a similar feature, meaning it might be available for all devices running on Android. A reference to a Tap to Share feature has been spotted in Android 17 beta and Canary builds. It means Google is building the feature into its upcoming OS, which might make it easy for Samsung and other phones to implement it. However, like AirDrop support via Quick Share, the feature is likely to arrive first for Pixel phones.
Google Pixel phones will likely receive the feature with Android 17, as will Samsung. Unlike the former, Galaxy phones will get the Tap to Share feature with One UI 9. According to Android Authority, a reference to the feature has been detected in early builds. “Just hold the top of your phone close to the device, and the files will be sent,” explains the feature’s description.
Perhaps, the feature will use NFC to transfer files between supported devices. They include sharing contact information, like in NameDrop, file transfers, meaning it will be built into Quick Share. Hopefully, we will learn more in the coming days as we expect more leaks about the One UI 9 update.
