Google had to change the new Android OS release cycle to ensure its new phones debuted with the latest OS. That worked with the Pixel 10 series but debuted with the August 2025 security patch, while the Google Play system update dates June 2025. We understand Google is rolling out a September 2025 security patch update for the Pixel 10.
The latest update is available for the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL. These devices debuted with Android 16 QPR1 with the full Material 3 Expressive Design. Perhaps the current update only optimized performance and resolved bugs, which is normal for a new device.
Details of the September 2025 security patch update for the Pixel 10 series

The update started rolling out yesterday, with only a few of the device users reporting it. It is a global release and hence, we expect a wider availability in the coming hours. Those who recently received the Pixel 10 series phone can check for the update, which has a software version of BD3A.250721.001.B7 and weighs approximately 70 MB.
While the security patch level is currently September 2025, the Google Play system is still on June 1, 2025. One would expect a new update to come with the latest build, especially since it has already been announced, but that’s never the case. Hopefully, the August version will start rolling out later this month.
Unfortunately, the Factory image or OTA is not available yet. Only from Settings>>System >>System update can you install the update. We understand it’s only a security patch with a few bug fixes while we wait for official inclusion into the beta program.
