Xiaomi has started rolling out a new major software update to several of its smartphones. The update is currently limited to Chinese users, but the company is expected to expand the rollout to global markets soon.

For now, the update is only available for a few flagship devices. While Xiaomi plans to extend the rollout to mid-range smartphones as well, reports suggest that only devices running Android 16 will be eligible to receive the upgrade.
According to recent reports, the update is currently being pushed to the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and Redmi K90 Pro Max in China.
Interestingly, the upgrade arrives as a relatively small 49MB package, which suggests that the current rollout may be targeted at users who previously participated in the beta testing program. Those receiving the update for the first time may see a larger installation file once the wider rollout begins.
HyperOS 3.1 focuses on performance and system improvements
With HyperOS 3.1, Xiaomi continues to refine system performance, animations, and overall stability. The update also includes various bug fixes and security improvements aimed at delivering a smoother user experience.
One of the noticeable changes is an enhancement to the Gallery app, along with a new feature added to the system launcher. Users can now stack recent tasks, making it easier to organize and switch between multiple apps.
