The Galaxy S22 series phones have stopped receiving monthly security patch updates. Samsung recently released the January 2026 security patch build for the models, but it seems it will take some time before the phones receive a new security update.

What’s Changing?
The Galaxy S22 series is eligible for four Android OS upgrades and five years of security patch updates. Samsung has already completed its promise on the OS front, delivering all four major Android updates. The devices are currently running stable Android 16.
While security support is still active, Samsung has demoted the Galaxy S22 series to quarterly updates. This means users will no longer receive patches every month.
When Is the Next Security Update?
Since the January 2026 patch is already out, the next security update is expected in April 2026. Going forward, Samsung will push a new security build roughly once every three months.
Is Security Support Ending?
No. Samsung has not stopped supporting the Galaxy S22 series yet. Updates will continue, just on a slower schedule. According to Samsung’s support policy, the phones will remain eligible for security patches until 2027, after which support is expected to end entirely.
What About One UI Updates?
There’s still some good news. Samsung is expected to release One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S22 series later this year. If it happens, this update will likely be the final One UI version the devices receive.
Should You Upgrade?
If monthly security patches and new One UI features are important to you, this may be the right time to consider upgrading. Samsung now offers up to seven years of updates on newer Galaxy S-series flagships, making them a better long-term investment.
With resale values dropping over time, trading in your Galaxy S22 sooner rather than later could also make financial sense.
Final Thoughts
The Galaxy S22 series remains usable and secure, but it has entered the final phase of its update lifecycle. Quarterly patches will continue through 2027, after which Samsung is expected to end support completely. Whether you stick with your device or upgrade, knowing what to expect helps you plan ahead.
