Google has begun rolling out the Android Auto 16.9 beta update. It’s exclusive to beta testers, but you can install the APK file without being part of the beta program. As usual, the update doesn’t come with a changelog, but we can confirm no front-facing features. However, the update confirms Google is working on new additions that will be released soon.

It has been only a few days since the Android Auto 16.8 stable update was released. Google is rolling out a new update, albeit only for beta testers. The rollout is via the Play Store, meaning only those participating in the beta program can install the update via the official channel. You can use the link below to install the APK file without a beta tester tag.
However, the update does not seem to introduce new changes. We know Google is working on a few additions, like Widget, YouTube video app support, Gemini, and others. Many people claim to have received Gemini, which replaced the traditional Assistant after installing the update, but we understand Google is still rolling it out in batches. Nevertheless, we recommend installing the update as it could fix all the bugs you have been experiencing using Android Auto.
Most Android Auto updates focus on bug fixes and optimization, and we believe Android Auto 16.9 beta build is no different. Users have been complaining of connection issues, Gemini reverting to the old Assistant, and a few other issues. Google acknowledged some of these bugs and promised to resolve them, and hence, we expect fixes with the new release.

Google has limited the release to the Play Store for eligible users. However, you can side-load the APK file once you download it from this link. Head to your device’s download folder and tap on the file to start the installation.
When you finish the installation, you can launch the app and start using it. Meanwhile, Google has opened up the Beta Program for new users. If you would like to test upcoming features like Widget, the YouTube videos app, and others, you should join the beta testers here.
